THE POETRY OF CLAY
Ceramic Workshop with Daisy Eltenton
This workshop introduces participants to the tactile and intuitive process of working with clay, guided by ceramic artist Daisy Eltenton.
Through hand-building techniques, participants will explore how a simple piece of clay can gradually take shape through touch, pressure and gesture. Rather than striving for perfection, the experience focuses on the pleasure of making by hand and discovering the individual character that emerges through the process.
Designed for all levels, the workshop offers an intimate introduction to contemporary ceramics within the setting of The Creative Series.
THE EXPERIENCE
• Introduction to hand-building ceramic techniques
• Exploration of clay, form, texture and proportion
• Step-by-step guidance by Daisy Eltenton
• Creation of an individual ceramic piece
• A relaxed and intimate creative environment
• No previous ceramic experience required
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
The session begins with a short introduction to Daisy Eltenton’s ceramic practice and her approach to working with clay.
Participants will then be introduced to fundamental hand-building techniques and guided through the process of creating their own ceramic object. Working directly with the hands, the emphasis will be on understanding the material intuitively — shaping, pressing and refining the clay while allowing each piece to develop its own character.
Throughout the workshop, Daisy will offer individual guidance, encouraging participants to experiment with form and surface while developing a personal response to the material.
The finished pieces will be glazed and fired after the workshop and will be available for collection at a later date.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Daisy Eltenton is a ceramic artist whose practice explores the relationship between material, form and the traces left by the hand. Working primarily with clay, she creates objects that balance functionality with a distinctly sculptural sensibility.
Her approach embraces the natural qualities of the material and the subtle irregularities that emerge through the making process. Each piece carries evidence of touch and gesture, giving it an individual presence and character.
Through her workshops, Daisy invites participants to experience ceramics not simply as a technique, but as a slower and more intuitive way of engaging with material and form.
